Duties and
Responsibilities:
Co-lead, supervise, transport, and mentor a team of 10 high school youth, ages 14-19 for six weeks (Mon-Fri, 35 hrs/week). Complete an assortment of hands-on conservation and restoration projects within different areas in the Forest Preserves of Cook County and plan and lead weekly educational field days. Administrative and reporting duties are required as they relate to data management, photo documentation, and youth assessments. Crew leaders will also be expected to facilitate a provided environmental education curriculum.

DATES OF SERVICE:
Paid Crew Leader Training: Harrisonburg, VA: June 2nd – June 11th (transportation/meals/housing will be provided) and Local Chicago Training: June 16th – 18th

Program Dates: July 6th - August 14th, 2020
Qualifications: 21 yrs or older; valid driver’s license for 3+ years and clean driving record; must be able to attend a mandatory 10 day overnight Crew Leader training in VA as well as local Chicago training (see dates above); current Basic First Aid and Adult CPR certifications or ability to obtain before program start date; outdoor skills; experience working with diverse groups of youth; ability to maintain safe, productive and enjoyable work environment; strong interest in working with and mentoring youth. Plant identification skills, knowledge of Midwestern ecology, or knowledge of the forest preserves is a big plus!

Crew Leader applicants that come out for two FPCC volunteer events removing invasive plants or helping out at a Nature Center have a better chance of securing a position for the summer. Events are led by certified leaders who instruct you on how to remove invasive species among other activities. To find an event go to http://fpdcc.com/volunteer.
