Description:	The Downers Grove Park District has designated two parks, Belmont Prairie and Lyman Woods, as natural areas. These unique, open-space parcels represent land that, in part or as a whole, have not undergone direct disturbance by civilization. Each area is managed to protect it's environmental significance. The restoration and maintenance of these sites combine the physical removal of non-native plants with the use of prescribed controlled burns and other management practices. Since our native prairie, wetlands, and oak woods evolved under the influence of natural fire, we have adopted a natural method of land management.
